Q For this unit, you will write a formal research report on existing empirical research. In other words, the purpose of your report will be to review, summarize, and analyze published (empirical) research on a specific topic. While you have the freedom to choose your topic, it must pertain to your field of studies. REQUIREMENTS Your report should include the following documents and sections: • Front matter documents: o A title page o An informative abstract o A table of contents • Body: o An introduction o The purpose of the report (can be combined with the introduction) o The materials and methods used (how you selected the articles for inclusion in your report) (Refer to the PDF "Classroom Seating Arrangement" in the files folder as an example to write this section.) o A results and discussion section o Conclusions and recommendations (both sections can be combined) o Works Cited • Back matter documents (optional) o Appendices Note: For further information about correct page numbering and organization, refer to "Student Model Formal Report," "Student Model Formal Report-Nursing," and "Formal Report and Structure" documents in the files folder. Format and Audience Audience: novices in your field. In other words, assume that your new employer asks you to prepare a report about your chosen topic in order to bring up to speed new hires at your company about recent development in your field. Thus, your audience has basic understanding of concepts and jargon in your field but is not familiar with your topic. Length: 5 to 7 pages, single-spaced, Times New Roman, font size 12. Note: this length doesn't include the front matter documents. In other words, the body of your report (starting with the introduction) should be at least 5 pages long. Citation Style: Use your major's preferred citation style (i.e., MLA, APA, CMS, IEEE, etc.) Sources: at least 7 articles published in peer-reviewed journals, published no earlier than 2012. You may also interview one of your professors to gain additional information about your topic; in this case, the interview will count toward one of the seven required sources. Grade and Grading Standards Grade Scale: 100 points Note: I will deduct 10 points for incorrect page numbering (see Files folder (Unit 4 Resources) for model document and textbook pp.216-225.)
